My Trip
to Africa
by Angelita Estadilla
(Page 2)
I was fortunate
enough to have had the opportunity to assist
in delivering babies. Pelvic examinations, auscultation
of fetal heart sounds, and cleaning newborn
babies after delivery were some of the experiences
I was afforded. It felt good to play a part
in delivering babies.
In Senegal, the birth of a newborn is
celebrated with music and dancing all day.
| Malaria
is endemic to the area due to the open air
drainage and refuse. There were on average
10 patients a day in the clinic who had
malaria even though it wasn't malaria season.
Most of them have chronic malaria because
of the repeated contraction of the disease. |

My last day in Senegal, I was able to visit the
St. Christopher's campus in Dakar.
