AMSA President's Message
l
Since January 2004, our AMSA chapter has seen an increase in student membership, a growing interest in AMSA-sponsored activities, and a new enthusiasm for the organization’s impact on students’ overall medical school experiences. In February and June we had over one hundred students in attendance for our IV clinics, while in March and July close to fifty students signed up for our suturing workshops. Additionally, our AMSA chapter proudly hosted the college’s First Annual Faculty/Staff Appreciation Dinner on March 30. After viewing the HIV/AIDS documentary A Closer Walk in late May, we chose to raise money for Crusaid, the UK’s largest HIV/AIDS fundraising organization and subsequently participated in their 10K “Walk for Life” fundraiser in London on June 20. Finally, on July 20 AMSA facilitated the first-ever Clinical Skills workshop at SCCOM, which featured hands-on stations for tracheal intubation, blood glucose screening, heart and lung sounds, and blood pressure screening.

Health Insurance

St. Christopher's College of Medicine provides malpractice insurance for their clinical students but does not cover for health insurance. It is mandatory that clinical students get health insurance on their own before starting clerkships. Students who do not submit proof of health insurance will not be allowed to start their rotations. We recommend that students obtain health insurance through AMSA since they offer affordable rates.

The insurance plan is underwritten by:

The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company
